Metro Stars Of The Week 4/11

04/11/2017 1:29 PM -

With the number of games this past week increasing what seemed like tenfold, deciding upon our second set of honorees for “Metro Stars of The Week” was not an easy task.

We begin with a member of the Bonnie Robins (U12) for the second week in a row thanks to a serious power outburst by Brandon De La Rosa. Facing the NY Sluggers in their LI Hot Stove opening double header, Brandon took over the day going 3 for 4 with 2 HRs and 7 RBIs in two mercy wins.

The next honoree is Ralph Riviere from last year’s U10 Runner Ups- The NY Phenoms. Riviere paced the Phenoms offense through-out last weekend’s Cal Ripken Bases Loaded Tournament in Aberdeen. Over 5 games, the slugger went 12-15 at the plate with 7 doubles, 1 triple, 9 runs scored, and 6 RBIs.

The final two members of our “Metro Stars of the Week” come to us from the Williamsburg Sports League Spring Fever Tournament. First, there is AJ Gonzalez of the Brooklyn Bandits (U10). The two way star pitched 5 shutout innings with 6 strikeouts on the mound while going 4 for 8 with 2 RBI’s at the plate in route to earning MVP.

In the U12 division, Justin Flores from Grand Slam Baseball Club didn’t win the MVP, but his pool play performance versus the eventual champions, CP Stars, was as dominant as we’ve seen in this young season. Taking the ball in the tournament opener, Flores baffled the CP Stars, striking out 14 batters to lead the boys from the Bronx to a 11-2 win.
